Re: [RC] Continued... Cost of Shoeing - Jon . Linderman

Extras like pads again I think varies. I can get cheap plastic pads on a
track horse at no charge, as well as borium on steel race plates at no
charge, but thick pads on my endurance horse run about $5/pair, I think,
and specialty pads like shock tamers or snow pads could be quite a bit
more. Because I use aluminum shoes I can't use borium, rather we get small
studs driven in & I think he pretty much throws those in. Its more time
and materials so if it was me, I'd certainly charge at least a few bucks
for borium.

My farrier does not charge for tossed shoes or sucked off shoes, IF of
course I retrieved the shoe off the trail or out of the pasture. If he has
to shape a new one then it does cost me a new shoe. BTW, even if the
farrier won't take any $ for resetting a tossed shoe, he may "find" a $5 or
$10 in his nail box from the hoof fairy.

Hey don't forget you farrier at Xmas time too.

Thank you all who responded...I am new at this so I wanted a gernral
consences...what about extra's like Borium, or adding pads (for snow)? And

if a horse throws a shoe (or more likely gets sucked down in the mud..lol),

does the ferrier charge to replace the shoe?

Chris & JJ (spell checker not working..)
