[RC] Itchiness due to sweat accumulation - Ridecamp Guest

==========================================

In response to Dixie's posting on her horse's itchy head due to sweating: there
was an article several months ago in EQUUS or Endurance News referencing this
problem. The article stated that sweating releases histamines that cause
itching. Some horses have nearly intolerable itchiness because of this and
should be relieved as quickly as possible at vet checks, post work outs, etc.
The horse should not rub on people as that can be dangerous but the rider
should rub the horse's face with a rough towel, jelly scrubber, wet cloth or
brush to provide relief. Horses should not be punished for trying to relieve
the itching sensation.
