[RC] re: LDs as endurance, qualifications to move up - Cindy Collins

I'm sure I'll hate myself in the morning for stepping in this, but it just
kills me to hear people talking about qualifications to ride a 50 miler
(or any miler...). Do you folks understand that many of us started with
100 milers? I have taken a horse on their first endurance ride and it was
a 100. That same horse won a national championship and several years
later top tenned Tevis with another owner. Several of my horses did one
50 and then a 100. I would not take one of my young horses on a 25 miler.
That's a personal preference only, but I should be allowed that. I
happen to feel that a slow 50 miler is much better for their minds. You
cannot legislate against stupidity. How many horses out there started
their endurance career with Tevis? I know that we are so divided on this
issue, but if we keep going down this path it will be back to a "show
ring" atmosphere that so many of us hate and the sport will split into
separate organizations and I truly don't want that. Cindy
