I feel he is heart broken not to have his old teenager at his feet -- she literally slept in his stall.

I agree with you, and that's what I meant by "bonding" with him. Perhaps you could also pony him and your other horse and vise versa once or twice a week...as well as do allot of ground work with him...you will have to split your time between both horses and give even more love to both..kinda like having kids without the college education attached, lol.
