Re: [RC] [RC] Rump rugs - Barbara McCrary

I've have had a Bernina for 36 years and it worked its little tailfeathers
off for nearly 20 years, making all the school clothing for three daughters,
in the days when they wore pretty clothes and not jeans and T-shirts.
Nowadays it just mends and patches Lud's jeans and work shirts, but it is a
great machine yet. I see Berninas now that have computerized embroidery
systems. Mine is just a no-nonsense machine.....it does have zig-zag
stitching, but I used it for buttonholes, sewing on buttons, overcasting
seam allowances, mending, etc.

I bought a Riccar 707, 20 years ago (time flies), I sew on a weekly basis.
I
bought it because you could get 12 layers of denim through it (barely). I
fix anything I can get under the presser foot. ANd sometimes sew for the
public. Only had one repair on it in all that time. Japanese made (I paid
700$) for it then.It actually costs about the same now. Best machines are
European, (viking , Pfaff, Huskuava(sp?), etc. Second best are Japanese
made, then everything else. Laurie

Those of you making all this great stuff.....which sewing machines are
able
to handle the thicker fabrics? I'm in the market for one but don't want
to
end up with something that will not be able to do the job.
