Re: [RC] RC] competing gaited horses - Karen Williams

I've had no pulse problems with my little 14h Paso Fino.  He usually initially vets in at around 36 and his recoveries are very quick.  We can't keep up with the Arabs on the flat stretches -- he just isn't fast enough, but he sure does eat it up in the techincal portions of the trail.  I'm amazed at how balanced and nimble he is.   He can fly downhill.  Regardless, we are pretty much at the back of the pack.  I'm happy if we complete before the clock stops.  Big plus is I usually feel great at the end of the ride -- he is so comfortable and so much fun to ride.  I'm new to the sport, so hopefully my times will improve.  Right now, I ride very conservatively.

Yes Paul's Paso can't quite keep up with us on the big, longer hills but he can "fly" past us on the downhill. Gaited horses can fly down hills when we have to walk or slow trot. So its all a wash.
