Re: [RC] OT-Sudden death - Barbara McCrary

Our daughter bred a 1/2 Andalusian colt out of a 3/4 Arab mare several years ago.  When the colt was about a month old, he was observed just fine one morning and dead by that afternoon.  The vet did an autopsy and diagnosed a congenitally faulty heart.

Subject: [RC] OT-Sudden death

Has anyone here had any experiences with horses suddenly dying?

My father just bought a colt...colt acted fine, no outward signs of illness, transported less than 5 minutes from point A to B, and arrived at point B with a dead colt.  Colt was not laying in ackward positioning as of broken neck or anything, but did say the next morning had a soft ball size of something that came from the nostril.

Our uncle sold a baby last year bought off the mama, had been trailered before,  went to deliver the baby, was in transport 10 minutes from home, heard a noise, and that baby was dead.

Is this common, can they panic to the point of death?  Any ideas?

Thanks ahead,
Lori
