One of my horses got quit thin last summer and I wanted to put weight on 
him fast.  I fed him whole flaxseed and whole black sunflower seeds 
(plus just extra of his regular rations).  He gained the needed weight 
and now looks great.  I started with about 1/4 cup and worked up to 
about a cup a day of flaxseed.
