RE: [RC] [RC] fescue grass pasture and endophyte infestation - Laurie Durgin

Fescue is the most common pasture in the Se, till you get really southe where youget more bermuda. In this reagion youcan get a mix. All the horses in The Ga. North area are on fescue, alot of the hay is fescue or a mix. I get a fescue/bermuda mix.The vets here only mention endophytes when a mare is pregnant (I had one) and sya to get her off it the last 3 months. But even then alot don't. Mine got some bits of it. But he sid the amount was negiligible.
So many horses around here on fescue, it doesn't seem to be an issue.....

We are looking at property in North Carolina and are worried about the problems associated with the endophytes found in fescue. How do you manage your horses when your pastures have fescue? What effects do you see in your competition horses? Is this a big deal, or no big deal? I am trying to research this and as much input as you can help me with would be greatly appreciated.
