[RC] Electrolyte cookies - Kristi Schaaf

I use cookies and e-lytes in feed rather than
syringing electrolytes (but I do ride very slow - I
don't know if cookies would cut it for those of you
riding much faster and needing bigger and more
frequent doses of e-lytes). I took a recipe passed
around NATRC and upped the e-lytes significantly, and
my guys still gobble them down. What's really funny is
that I can't make 'people food' to save my life, but I
can bake these! Anyway, three small cookies contain an
ounce of e-lytes. You of course can alter the recipe
in any # of ways. I asked Susan G a long time ago if
baking altered e-lytes, and she didn't think it would.
As for sugar content, yep there's a lot. But it hasn't
caused my horse any problems, as far as I can tell.

8 cups sweet feed
2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup water
1 12 oz bottle molasses
1 grated carrot
1 grated apple
1 cup electrolytes (I use Enduralite)

Mix well (make sure electrolytes are evenly
distributed). Spray muffin tin with Pam and press mix
in. Bake 15 minutes @ 350 degrees. Remove from tin and
press down gently on cookies with spatula when still
warm (they'll fit in a saddle pack better!). Makes 24
cookies w/ 1/3 oz e-lytes per cookie.
