Re: [RC] Newbie w/saddle question - Laney

At 4, your filly isn't finished growing yet! She may not get much taller, but her shape will definitely fill our and change. Conditioning will also buff her up too. It's a sad fact that whatever saddle might fit her now, may well not fit in a year or so. laney

Hi, all. I am preparing my 4 year old for future CTR and END riding. I have been trail riding her on short rides mostly at the walk. Well, I bumped her up to 10 mile pleasure rides (again mostly at the walk with occassional trot/canter so it takes us 3+ hours to finish).

I am having saddle problems on the longer rides. I do use a breastplate. I have tried an Arabian saddle company saddle and the wintec isabell Werth dressage saddle w/care panels.

I am looking at treeless saddles and have asked several CTR/End friends. However, they all have different opinions! My filly is not the typcial wide barrel, big boned Arabian you might expect.

This is the situation: I have an extremely refined Arabian filly, 15hh, 7 1/2" cannons, size 38 girth. She is narrow and has good withers (moderately high but not TB high). When I use the wintec back meausre thing it has her as a medium wide. Most saddles when placed on her sit up off her back behind. Really am leaning toward the treeless route.

What treeless saddles are good for narrow, skinny, good withered horses? Oh, I am a lightweight, balanced rider.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
