Re: [RC] beet pulp and molasses - Lif Strand

Quoted from Jonni's message at 08:45 AM 11/1/2004:
Here is the link again to Karen's site, where some of the feeds are compared, and the molasses content it mentioned.

MY brand (Manna Pro) has 1-3% molasses content. So that would mean 1-3% of a cup would be molasses by bulk. Doing the conversion, 3% of 16 tablespoons (1 cup of beet pulp) would yield just a smidgen under 1 tablespoon of molasses, or something like 27 calories. (But math has never been my forte - results may vary). I'm guessing I feed around 12 cups of beet pulp per horse per day, so that would be feed in the vicinity of 360 (at the very outside) calories per day of molasses if that's the case. If the average riding horse requires 13-15 Mcal/day (I believe that is 13,000 to 15,000 calories, right?) for just maintenance, I think the 360 calories from the molasses would be negligent.

But someone had better check my math.
