RE: [RC] WEIGHT DIVISIONS - bobmorris

The AERC Rules on weight are explicit in they determine what
is to be weighed. Body and tack! This determination is
implicit in that the several articles of tack are not
defined nor exactly what the "body" actually is.

Yes, the AERC makes the assumption that riders are honest
sportsmen.

It is sad that all the above is very often ignored for the
sake of ego.

I'm new to the sport but I don't see why they allow you to
weigh
waterbottles and food and such. Those items should not
be with you at
the end of the ride. They will be consumed. There is no
need to put
the weight of those items in your total weight.

The AERC rules are not specific about what is weighed--the
above is simply common sense, but does get abused at times.
FEI rules are very clear on this point, and (particularly if
you are close to the weight cut-off) the "stuff" you carry
to make weight is inventoried and can be checked
periodically throughout the ride to see if it is still
there.

While FEI rules do tend to get a bit picky at times, AERC
rules tend to go the other direction toward simplicity,
leaving riders on the honor system.
