RE: [RC] English saddle/recessed stirrup bar pressure - Libby & Quentin Llop DVM

Connie, Alice & other friends:

We have made the same observation about the Wintec saddles.  When we were in England learning how to install the FLAIR air bags, we met an Australian saddle retailer, who sold both Wintec and FLAIR.  He described to us how to modify the trees in the Wintec saddle to remove rocker.  Many horses have similar flattish backs to the ones described.

We have done the process to numerous saddles for our own use and customers.  There are pictures on our website http://home.earthlink.net/~qhll/Backs.htm showing saddle fit before and after.

We can do this to any Wintec sent to us, but it probably voids the tree waranty.

So true with Wintecs, this is exactly the problem I had with my Wintec pro dressage and my table top backed mare. Even though I could get the wither adjustment right, the rest of the bars were banana shaped and so there was very little spread on the bars to cover my mares back. Wound up with a treeless endurance saddle and that's working very well.

The saddle may have too much arc for the horse's back. If the horse is flat backed this saddle may not be properly distributing the weight.

We will see if the problem is really fixed, but the saddle guy I saw today says it's not the stirrup bar pressure, but the fact that the saddle is probably moving back and forth as the horse moves. He showed me, on my horse, how this was happening nad then restuffed the front panel. It's a dressage 500 with CAIR. Now, this may/may not solve the problem. the guy is a dressage guy and he may have NO CLUE about staying in the saddle for long hours. But, for $30 it was worth the custom fitting and he'll be around to help me work on it some more.

Hi, I am having some saddlefit issues I never had before in the
past. I am getting pressure points at the stirrup bars. I used a
Wintec 500 with and without Cair, and now a Cliff Barnsby
dressage saddle, all have the same issue. I will be looking at
replacing the saddles and would like to know what saddle makers
DON'T use the recessed stirrup bars, or the gusseted panels.
