RE: [RC] Weight Divisions!! - Jim Holland

Hmmm....I think we should drop the saddle, too. IMHO, the WEIGHT of the
saddle is irrelevant and would not have any impact on saddle "choice". In
50's and greater distances, you WILL have a saddle that fits...or you won't
do well...at least not at the "award" level. Choosing a saddle because of
the weight is like choosing a horse because of his color....that's the LAST
thing you consider. The difference between horses in general is more than
that. For example, Magic loses approximately 30 pounds at every ride. Why
would the difference between a 15 pound saddle and a 25 pound saddle even be
an issue?

I would prefer just the RIDER weight.

My preference would be to drop all tack and water from the
weight..just> what's on your "body". You "choose" to carry "stuff".
You don't
have to,> just like you don't have to carry a GPS, or a heart monitor.

I don't believe it would be good to drop the weight of the saddles. That
would encourage heavier people to use lighter saddles and often the
lighter saddles don't distribute weight as well. A saddle & rider is
enough. I didn't understand not weighing bridles in FEI. I can see
leaving off waterbottles though. I agree we have too many divisions. I've
had my butt kicked too many times by a HW to think I'm at that much of a
disadvantage competing against the smaller FW.
