Re: [RC] [RC] [RC] [RC] UAE Involvement in AERC Functions - Howard Bramhall

Yes, to both of your questions in #1. The answer to your question in number two is that yes, it is happening in their country. The camel jockey campgrounds are in their country. I doubt if this exists in the UAE alone but the UAE does have the largest number of camel campgrounds, according to the show.

It's not just one sheihk although he, Sheihk Mohammad of the UAE, is the one HBO mentioned by name. The camel jockey campgrounds are scattered throughout the UAE. They are not all owned by Sheikh Mohammed.

It's really not a choice between #1 or #2. This is more than just a "problem." This is a revolting practice perpetuated by those who think they are above the law. It is slavery, pure and simple. Slavery of young boys, aged 3 to 9, with the only goal to have them race the Sultan's camels for the Sultan's profit. All of the men hired to abduct the boys, train the boys, starve the boys and who perform the other atrocities to these boys are paid directly by the Sheikhs who own these camels and the campgrounds where the boys are kept.

OK, I'm going to take a break here. I get the feeling I'm starting to talk too much on this issue. All I ask is that ya'll make a valiant effort to watch the show. Thursday evening might be the last chance for you to do this. It may not disturb you as much as it disturbs me but, if you see it all on film, it will disturb you. Keep in mind, as you watch it, it was all filmed only two months ago.

As Ansur Burney says in the piece, "Of course I cry over the deaths of these boys. I cry when I see how they live and how they are treated. I want to save them all. I am, after all, only human."

cya,
Howard

Can those of you who have watched the film define the problem a little more
clearly for those of us who have not?

1 - Is the problem that one of the main sponsors of endurance in the UAE is
directly involved in the camel racing abuses? Does the film show abuses of
children happening at his facilities and venues he is directly involved in?

2 - Or is the problem that it's happening in that country?

I thought it was case #1, but from the analogies that are being bantered
about, it sounds more like case #2.

Happy Trails,
