[RC] Inconsistent Lameness - Nikki McCormack

I was just hoping to solicit a little feedback in regards to our mare's odd lameness. She has been dramatically stiff on one leg in the mornings when I let her out. However, no more than 1/2 hour later, she will be sprinting around the paddock, bucking and playing. In the evening she will display no sign of lameness. There is no swelling or heat in the leg and if we hand walk her in the evening she is less stiff in the morning than if we do not. We rode her last night for about 20 minutes to see what would happen and she did not even have a hitch in her step under saddle. This morning she was stiff, but not as stiff as yesterday.

Anyone have such an experience. I am hesitant to have a vet out because we just started a major barn remodel and are, predictably, a bit short on funds as a result.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Feel free to respond in private if you wish.

Thanks!
Nikki (& Cody - who thinks the mare is in need of counseling).
