Well,I wouldn't worry too much about what the guy in the saddle shop thought. 
Hope I'm not being too repetitious here,but it is a big mistake to assume that 
everything done by any saddle maker was done for a good reason or for any 
reason at all. If you think your stirrup leathers and/or rigging on any saddle 
are fouled up and interfering with your ability to ride your horse,take 
steps.Put some other type of leathers or rigging on there if you think that is 
the answer,and you really like the saddle otherwise.It's your 
saddle!Stirrups,leathers,and rigging should  be thought of as accessory 
components.
