If one is of the mindset that pretty is as pretty does, there is no such
thing as "a competent horse that is butt-ugly."  The more competent the
horse the more beautiful it is.

It is unclear to me why that would be any different with Arabians than
any other breed.  There are a bunch of breeds of horses that have
superficial looks completely unrelated to functionality as selection
criteria, like many of the color breeds, but few of the true performance
breeds (as in, unjudged competitions such as race horses and show
jumpers...and, one woudl hope, endurance horses).
