==========================================

You will know more when her bloodwork comes back, but the problem could be
insulin resistance, or Cushings, or both. Have her owner join the Yahoo Equine
Cushings List, and they have extensive files of information, including many of
the physical "early warning signs", and appropriate bloodwork for an exact
diagnosis. The group is moderated by Dr. Eleanor Kellon DVM.
Pregnancy can make mares have high insulin, become permantly IR, which may or
may not return to normal after the foal is born. I had a mare who became
insulin resistant, and had the loss of muscle around her pelvis, and no "go" at
all, after her foal was born.I had never heard of IR, but just started looking
everywhere, to find an answer. The treatment for IR is mainly diet( no sugars,
including glucosamine) and careful monitoring of the thyroid levels.The EQ list
would be worth looking into.
