[RC] Old yearbooks....what a walk down memory lane - Jody Rogers-Buttram

Hello everybody,

Well, those who know me, know I quit my job about 4 weeks ago, so, how does one entertain thereselves when the horses are resting.   Go to the bookshelf and pull out old AERC yearbooks.   Let me tell you, there is some funny stuff in there.  I have them from 1974 on to current date.  A few things jumps out of the '74 book, one, there is a full page ad for Arabians for endurance horses...There are range raised, in the mountains, Fadjur get and grand-get....here is the funny part, Starting a $300 and up.  Man, wish I could get a truckload of them!!!!  Oh, and then there is the part near the back where all the horses that have met a mileage goal are listed....there are only 1000 mile horses.  None over 1000 miles!!!!!!   Then, if we jump all the way into the future to 1982, you see the first and only horse to reach 6000 miles...yep, Bandit.  And did I mention that in that 1974 yearbook, one of the articles talking about the National Champion that year, which was James Coffman and Revel D from Missouri ( I actually remember him from the Alabama Ride that year) it starts off like this: It is amazing that in this modern day of endurance riding,.....  Modern???????  Modern in 1974????  I guess back then it was.  So, if anyone out there is wanting to look at the "old life" of endurance and the Golden Years.   Get out those old yearbooks....there are interesting.  Plus, it is fun to see the names and pictures of a lot of people you may have forgotten about.

Old Jody and the "New age girls".
