[RC] re: [RC] ?Saddle for Wide-Backed Horse? - Michelle Fink

Unfortunately, there are no true standards among saddle tree makers. In
general, Arabian bars are shorter than QH length bars.

Sounds like you are having problems with the amount of rock, or curve, in
the bars. Some Arab trees have bars with lots of rock, while others are
made for a flatter topline and have less rock.

Some saddle tree makers assume Arabs are wide, some assume they are narrow.
Again, no standard exists in the width of the bars and the angle the bars
are set at.

It would help if all of our Arabs and Morgans had the same back, but they
run the gamut in width, curve, angulation, and length.

Based on the fit problems you describe, I will be suprised if padding solves
the problem for any length of time. It's like trying to add socks to make a
bad pair of hiking boots fit. Better to start with a good fit and pad
conservatively.

How's that for an anti-helpful answer??

Happy Trails,

"I have been told that Arabian backs are similar to Morgans so I am asking
RideCamp people where there are LOTS of Arabs. Do you have wide, table top
backs and how do you handle this? I have heard of an Arabian tree on
saddles. What does this mean?"
