RE: [RC] [RC] Courtney vs Tevis....missing link - Courtney Giardina

Hi Jeanne~

I guess I should have specified more about my horse. He's completed Tevis before and VC (top ten finish) and I've done 5 rides on him this season. Our next ride with hopefully be the multi day at Smokey Killian (which my horse won last year). I know that the level and unique rules are apart of the ride, and maybe I'm just pushing an issue that should've been dropped a while ago. I just feel so strongly about it.. and its hard to explain to people that aren't in my shoes. I know its hard since most of you don't me, how I compete and what my intentions are with endurance. I guess that's the biggest issue with Tevis rules. They can't interview anyone so they don't know my history. I just wish I could fix this somehow....Happy trails to you too!
~Courtney

One of the most important facts we've
all over-looked during this debate of
a first-time(and under-aged)rider on the Tevis trail
is a line I picked up on in her original post.
"I just bought a new horse..."
Is this the horse she planned to ride? What's his history?Has he finished Tevis before?Other 100's?
Has she ever competed on him &
what's her plan for getting
a new horse ready to do this ride?
I'm not suggesting that the rules be changed
whatever this horse's history because I think this
ride is & should remain unique but from my own
past experience on Tevis..MY FIRST Endurance Ride
EVER!!completed in 1980..it was my horse who was the
determining factor.I was new..HE WASN'T!True,
he'd never done endurance either but was the
Champion Open NATRC horse in Region 1 for 2 years in a
row carrying a 190 lb man on his tiny 14'1hd
body.I also did 5 NATRC rides on him & placed every
time & then spent another year training for Tevis.
I got my buckle & Cougar Rock photos & they mean
the world to me.Courney will get her chance and I
hope when she heads out that she AND her horse will
be prepared.Happy Trails!pepper
