[RC] Hot Nail Advice - k s swigart

Karla said about her horse getting a hot nail:

Is it a sign my shoer is not good?

No, it happens to all of them sometimes. Even the good ones.

This guy has been amazing so far and was a recommendation
from 2 endurance riders who have won just about everything
there is to win my region. He has done a superb job so far
with my boys. It has taken me a few shoers to find this great one.

You might want to reconsider if it starts happening often. Otherwise, I
would stick with a great shoer that has done a superb job up until now
and comes with recommendations from people who are involved in the same
discipline as I am.

Different horses take different amounts of time to "recover" from a hot
nail. I suspect it depends upon where the nail actually went, and just
how long it was there before being noticed. _I_ would consult my vet if
the soreness lasted longer than a couple of days.
