In the research paper about hinny production that I provided the link
for, the last paragraph (i.e. the conclusion) stated:

"...The main limitations to hinny production were poor sexual desire of
stallions towards jennies and also low conception rates after
interspecies mating. The latter also cast doubts on the potential of
alternative approaches (e.g. artificial insemination) to circumvent the
behavioral barrier to interspecies breeding."

It would appear that not only are stallions choosy about what they will
mate with, but their sperm is as well--even if the stallion himself
isn't. :)
