Re: [RC] physiology & conditioning - Karen Sullivan

THE QUESTION: Why the extended rest? What is the particular
physiological issue? It is obviously not muscle. Humans don't need a
week off after a marathon. A couple of days, maybe; not a week.

Couple of thoughts and I am very interested in this also.......it's not
so much about muscle....maybe more about toughening ligaments
and tendons?

Also.....the human can certainly gague how sore they are. I know if I
overdo it running I don't feel it so much the next day...but more the
second day.

Also.....the horse cannot tell you if he is hurting and some are so stoic
anyway you will not observe the soreness.....so err on the safe side and
give more time off???
Karen
