[RC] The Numbers are Against Us. - victoria thompson

The American Quarter Horse IS America's horse. They have historically ALWAYS had significantly more horses registered every single year than any other breed, and that includes thoroughbreds. The Arabian has never been as popular a breed across the country as you seem to think. Don't get your shorts in a knot. The breed isn't going the way of the dodo.

I, for one, am pleased as punch that other breeds are making a dent in breed registries. I remember when I had my fox trotter people had never heard of them - now they're fairly common among gaited horses - yea.

The Arabian is safe and secure within the niche it has, and I say keep it that way. Quarter Horses have suffered greatly from their popularity thanks to over zealous breeders and stupidity. My Quarter is from foundation stock, has championship cutting and reining bloodlines, she's huge, beautiful, and at the age of 12 hobbling around with ring bone in all four feet and hock spurs (she's 14 now and all we can do is schlep around town). Very sad. Keep those Arabs "unpopular", and be choosey about what you buy (giving heed to those show breeders).

Taffy (aka The Cadillac - now with 4 blown tires)
