Re: [RC] CA earthquake - Bette Lamore

My son called me on my cell to see if I was OK as he felt the quake in San Francisco--- I told him I didn't know anything about an earthquake. He thought it was centered in San Miguel, only 3 miles from us in Paso. I was on my way to Santa Barbara but couldn't reach anyone as the phones were down and Mark was at a client's so I quickly turned around expecting broken glass to be all over the place, horses freaking out and cats disappearing only to arrive home to horses nodding off under the trees, cats sleeping along with the dogs and not one thing disturbed. I understand that this was a rolling one-- not like the last jerky one that took all of my new wine glasses (that I had just gotten for my bday and hadn't even had time to put a drop of wine into them!!)
Sooo we were very lucky this time and it reminded me to get those childproof locks you put on cabinets--- may save my wine glasses next time :-)
Yes, earthquakes are not as scary to me as fires or hurricanes or tornados, but then, I've never been in a really bad earthquake.

We are in Central Coastal California about 20 miles from Paso Robles - epicenter of this quake was in Parkfield which is known as "earthquake capitol of the world" - lots of seismic equipment there to measure quakes particularly on the San Andreas faultline - also has a great cafe and inn. Lots of very large cattle ranches there so it would be most surprising if there were any injuries to people. We felt a good jolt here at our ranch but it was nothing compared to the one jolt and roll after another from the quake in Dec. Barbara Sanches
