[RC] cats & snakes (OT) - Ridecamp Guest

==========================================

I'm finding it hard to find it "funny" that ones beloved cats
are playing with rattlesnakes in the first place. If my cats
were playing with rattlesnakes I'd be frankly freaked out. I'm
freaked out when I find a black widow somewhere that it could
possibly bite my cats. But, then, I'm "weird" about my cats. The
reason my cats don't go outside has less to do with the damage
they could inflict on the environment (which IS a real problem,
dispite what some may think, since domestic cats are not native
preditors and feral cats in particular are VERY hard on the
native populations in many areas) than it does with the damage
the environment (from coyotes & rattlesnakes to cars to sick
humans) could do to them.

I do understand that many consider cats to be rodent exterminators.
And they can be very good at that. But, the hazards to the cats
outweigh that for me. Maybe if I lived somewhere where there
were no threats to the cats, maybe...

~Nicole (who is sure that someday I'll be the crazy lady with
the houseful of cats.... oh, wait, it's too late)
