[RC] SCRATCHES - Heather Van Fossen

Hello all,
I am curious to learn any remedy or preventative (preferably) for scratches
caused by alkaline soil. I recently went to Bryce Canyon (XP...I would highly
recommend this ride!!!) and my horse developed a pretty impressive case on the
last day of the ride. I did not treat him prophylactically since he has never
had a problem with scratches. We are newbies and I was really floored to
discover his hind legs and the state they were in. I was thinking of
slathering his pasterns in desitin before the ride and at the vet check...is
there any other ideas? I am going to the Grand Canyon XP ride and am assuming
that the soil is similar there...does anyone know one way or the other? Thanks
in advance!!! His legs did heal up very soon but I would like to stay on top
so maybe he won't have them at all! Heather
