[RC] rump rugs - Dot Wiggins

I hope all the nice tack venders will forgive me, I don't want to take away
their customers, but rump rugs are so easy.

Measure from center back of saddle to back of horse, (top of tail head or as
far as you want to cover.)
Measure from center back of saddle down side to about stiffle area or as
deep as you want to cover, and double.
Find some polar fleece in medium weight in a color/pattern you like. Be
sure you like the color, the rug will wear forever.
Take a dart about 6 inches or so on each side of center rear edge so it will
drape nice. Hem or use binding all the way around. You can put a washer
or other small weight in each back corner if you like but not really needed.
Center front, put a grommet or sturdy button hole, and one on each side
close to the D rings. Use heavy flat shoe laces, tie knot thru each
grommet then thru D ring on sides and crupper ring in center back of saddle.
Use loose ends to tie rolled up rug till you need it. Don't need to tie
center of roll, sides will keep it fine.
You can get as fancy as you want with the binding, embroidery, shape the
corners, use water proof fabric, double layers, etc. I find the polar
fleece stays warm even if wet, doesn't weigh much.
Voila!! Custom rump rug.
