My riding buddy calls those "decapitation vines."  <G>  We get them here in East Texas, too.  Nothing like hauling butt down a piece of single track in the forest, coming around a corner, and having one of those suckers hanging about chest level!  One ride comes to mind where my friend was in front and we were all flying along...and suddenly she rounded a curve and there was a dreaded decapitation vine.  If she had been on any other horse but her mare, she'd have been yanked off, since there was almost no time to stop...but her mare is so responsive she stopped on a dime.
