But if some of them were geldings, we would not have an over population
of crappy horses, that have no sale value, and end up at the killers.

That's a nice line, but it is the irresponsibility of the folks who OWN
the stallions who make that happen.  One stallion can get waaaaay too many
mares pregnant, and some stallions do--the irresponsible breeders who will
breed 50 head to get one "show ring star" are among the worst offenders.

Among the more responsible folks are the preservation folks who have
oodles of stallions, but are very selective about the mares to whom they
breed them--some of the stallions may only have 10 or 20 babies in a
lifetime, to keep a line going, and the breeders are darn particular about
where those babies end up.

So it still boils down to people....  <sigh>
