[RC] Shoeing/Trimming Philosophies - Alice Yovich

yes, but how do I take care of the fact that he's not taking off enough toe to keep her comfortable and safe for even a three week period? I know other people with other barefoot horses who don't have this problem, so it leads me to believe that the problem is the farrier, not the horse. TO my eye, even the shod horses have really long feet before the next shoeing comes so it leads me to believe that he's only taking off just enough to ensure that we will need him in exactly six weeks. Heaven forbid the couple times he's had to postpone for rain or other complications and we've been 8 weeks without hoof care. I guess this what has driven My desire to learn. I'll either say "oh, that guy knew what he was doing" or I'll say that I found a better way. I was Ok until I had her done by a guy who made her move like a dream at a ride. Unfortunately, he's over 3 hours away for me and not really able to get with me for regular shoeings or trimmings.

Generall, I believe the guidelines are ok.
They just don't work for every horse. Your farrier is smart. I'd keep him
around :-)
