RE: [RC] [RC] Alive in the panhandle - Howard Bramhall

So glad you're OK. All I gotta say is "Welcome to Florida." lol.

I know, it's not a joke but, I swear, if you don't laugh during and after one of these storms from swamp Hell, you may become more crazy than myself (is that possible, Howard?).

I highly recommend that ride after the hurricane. I did it after both of mine and, the scenery you've been used to does change. I swear, after Frances, I took out my wife's favorite horse, Commander, and, we hopped right over a black gator, who was either sleeping, playing possum or extremely dead. After stepping right over him, I did not have the courage to go back and check out which of those three states he was in.

Once I realized what we were trotting over (Commander never saw it, thank goodness), even though I jumped a little, I did not freak out like I normally would. Although I love the gator I never want to leap frog over one again. I ain't that crazy.

He was a bigun; my estimate was over 12 feet. Never saw one this black before. Truman, do they turn black when they're dead? Can they actually sleep or not move at all, like a snake, and let us jump over them like that?

Hurricanes will toughen you up. My fear factor was at it's peak. Nothing scares me anymore except I won't stick around for the next hurricane. That's cause I now have another place to run to. Ten hour drive, through the Smokies on I-40 and you're almost there. Tennessee, it's the place to run, the place for fun, my Tennessee.

Ed Kilpatrick, you OK? And, more importantly, how's Gorgeous George doing? I guess, after the Tevis, hurricanes are probably no big deal to him.

Anyone know how Michelle Owens and Kim Williams did? They're places looked awfully close to that bad side of Ivan and the twister area.

We cannot afford to lose one horse or one endurance rider to these stupid, awful, global warming freaks of nature. Truman, can't you invent some sort of ice lazer device where my Air Force could go up there and freeze the water surrounding the eye of these things to save us from ourselves? I saw something like that in one of those old Batman movies ("Mr. Freeze," I think).

There's gotta be a way. I swear, it's those damn fossil fuels; we're killing ourselves here by burning it all up so fast (before the Chinese catch up to us) and Florida will be the first to go. A hurricane is gonna find it's way up Florida's uretha and we're all gonna implode, making Florida a chain of islands from the Louisiana coast the the new one in Georgia.

cya,
Howard (felt like ramblin on this morning, I do apologize)

Well we survived our first hurricane. it was about a catagory 2 where we live in Holt FL ; the winds were about 100 miles an hour for about 5 hours or more. Holt is less then 100 miles from where it landed on the gulf. The very day we finished moving into our new home we boarded up the windows and waited. It was very scary night. I woke up to fifity or more trees down on our property. It looks like a bomb went off. Some just missed the house by a breath. Today we have no power and don't expect it back on for about three weeks. The barn lost it's roof and the house needs a new roof. And our home in Niceville lost shingles but otherwise is fine - it has power!!. The lot we own in Niceville lost the car port; it blew to the far end of the property and is upside down.

BUT we are fine ( well I am pretty tuckered out ) and the horses did great in a BIG pasture with fly masks on. They are standing in about a foot of water but we will work on our fence this weekend so we can move them to dryer land. Now we have work to do to clean up - lots of it. I sure hope I find time to ride or I may lose my sanity. Thanks for your concern for us, we pulled thru.

Becoming a true blue Flordian..now I have Ivan stories!!!
Mary Anne Maynard and family
