You did the right thing.  IMMEDIATELY let him (or
her) know he or she did wrong.  The alpha mare will
kick a wrong-doer in the side.  If the offense is
more serious, she'll face the naughty one and expel
him/her from the heard...eye to eye and facing
squarely. 


I probably wouldn't have been quite as agressive, but
I'd just taken Star's halter off, so I was armed with
a 12' NH type lead with a chain and a rope halter.

ggg< I backed him into the corner, eye to eye, until

he finally put his head down.
