I haven't dealt yet with spiphysitis, thank goodness,
but I have seen my babies get "hot" on Equine junior.
I removed the junior and gave them just a little bit
of what the other horses were eating, and the
"hotness" subsided. They are on 24 hour turnout in a
big pasture.

I do have to offer a plug though for Purina Equine
Senior. I just sent them some before and after photos
of my 21 YO stallion. He was a mess when we got him,
thin, dull coat and eyes, just looked awful.

Got his teeth fixed and put him on Equine Senior and
now you would not believe it's the same horse. I've
tried other "senior" feeds by other mfgrs to save a
little money, but he'd lose the glossy coat and lose
weight. So he's strictly a Purina guy now. He also is
turned out 24/7 and has free choice pasture and hay.

FWIW, the WORST case of epiphysitis I EVER had in my
own herd was an
orphan foal--I couldn't figure out why he was having
a problem, and the
little neighbor girl finally told me that my feeding
lady had gone out and
bought a "Junior" feed and was feeding it behind my
back.  I practically
had to threaten to break her fingers if she ever did
such a thing again,
and once he got off the stuff, he came around and
started to grow much
more normally.
