Re: [RC] [RC] [RC] Saddles and more and more - Chris Paus

Why the boots? They aren't really good for anything
unless they horse interferes and is in danger of
hurting itself banging on its own legs. If that's the
case, it really shouldn't be doing distance sports.

Studies have shown that the boots don't really support
tendons and ligaments, besides which, if they did, why
would you want that? You want the horse to develop
strong tendons and ligaments. That's the purpose of
lots of LSD work. Strengthen, strengthen,
strengthen...

And, as others have said, they are hot. And they
collect dirt and debris that irritate the horse's leg.
I used them one time and when I took them off and saw
the horse's leg, I said never again. It was like
having sandpaper on him, poor boy!

As for tights, well, wear jeans if you want to. Tights
aren't a fashion statement, they are for self
preservation, like helmets. If you want the inside of
your thighs to look like raw hamburger at the end of
the ride, then wear jeans. I don't advocate sweats or
other loose clothing as it gets caught on stuff and
can be dangerous.

Distance riders truly come in all shapes and sizes.
I'm one of the large variety and I do wear riding
tights. No one is going to comment on your thighs,
really. It only will matter to you.

Oh, and boots (for horses) -I have some neoprene

I do not own anything neoprene because of heat build
up... My mare got major heat burns on her front legs
from wearing Professionals Choice Sport boots while
injured in her stall. I now have Ortho Equine
(Martha
Josey's Company) that are truly breathable. The
difference is amazing and apparent. When Star tore
her
tendon and she was booted/wrapped 24 hours a day her
legs sweated under the Pro Choice, they got fungus,
they were awful. The Ortho Equines had very little
sweat, no fungus, and no heat burns.

Do I have to buy those tights that everyone
wears???
I have some degree of thunder thighs and am not in
a
big hurry to show them off in a set of riding
tights!
