You can buy or make cinch/girth  covers of wool. You could get them from
  Stateline tack, Dover, ebay, etc. You could also make them out of wool
 fleece. I made some out of fake fleece, they worked fine for regular
riding.  Then you could use one girth and get several covers, and let
them dry out   from washing...

I used to use covers, but always had problems with them creeping and
bunching, no matter how I tried to secure them at the billets, etc.  Once
I used the woolback girths, I don't think you could drag me back to
covers...
