[RC] those fast gaits - Ed Kilpatrick

hi ray, i dont know if you are familiar with paso finos, but their gait is different than a rack.   it is a synchronous four beat, even at the faster speeds.   the footfall has this pattern, starting from a standstill, the right rear foot picks up and moves forward, just as it touches down, the right front picks up, moves forward, just as it touches down, the left rear picks up and moves forward, just as it touches down, the left front picks up and moves forward, just as it touches down, then the right rear again.............
even in the faster gaits, the paso fino often has three feet on the ground and one foot up.
this is why they are so smooth and surefooted, even in rough terrain.    ed
