[RC] Pecan trees / and horses - Jonni Jewell

Many pastures around North Texas have Pecan trees. They are not toxic. I
have not found my horses particularly interested in the trees either. Pecans
start dropping from the trees around November. You can pick up the nut in
the shell, crack it open, and eat the nut. Yummy!!! There seem to be two
types. Native, and "paper shell". The native are smaller in size, and the
shell is very, very tough to crack. The flavor is MUCH better. The paper
shell will be larger, and you can usually squeeze two together, and crack
them open, to get to the "fruit" out. Still yummy, but not nearly as rich
flavored as the smaller native pecans.

Enjoy your new place, its Pecan trees, and don't worry about putting the
horses out with them.
