[RC] Losing the same shoe - beth glover

Hi ridecampers; I remember last week or so , someone was asking if buying a chestnut horse with white feet meant hoof problems. Well I have a great idea. Ask for the name and number of that horse's shoer, and call them and ask if that horse has a habit of throwing shoes, or any hoof problems. It could be a bad hoof. Or it could be a lousy rotten shoer, there's always that possibility too. Anyway, my horse keeps throwing the right front shoe. I am so torqued at my shoer right now, I am focusing my lazer beam of weekend anger directly on him. I keep asking him to make sure the shoes don't extend far past the heel. He keeps, "uh-huh-ing " me.  Trouble is, I don't know anyone around here that shoes any better, I live in DQ land you know. Home of the one hour a week QH poker ride. Sigh. Does anyone in So. Cal, San Gabriel Valley, Pasadena area, know of a talented, or endurance oriented shoer that doesn't charge $400 per shoeing?  I talked with a very noteable, and also kind, rider at Swanton, and she recommended foam ing on easy boots over the shoes at every ride.  My problem at this ride was that I didn't have foam. I did have duct tape. What I know about using Easy boots, you could put that knowlege in a thimble.  I've read Karen's page online. Period.   Do easy boot users think that a horse with a huge stride, that over-reaches, would be a candidate for Easy boots, or would she just rip those off repeatedly too?  Yes we square the hind hooves. In fact I told my shoer's apprentice two things, "If you ever get an Arab, don't pound him full of alfalfa", and "Always Always square the hind toes of Arabs cause every one I've ever had, over-reaches for a long way".  He's been watching Hildalgo so he is getting perked up about Arabs and endurance, interestingly. Especially after hearing our ride stories.    I digress. What about those Swiss boots or Old macs. There is a guy that I ride with at So. Calif rides frequently, named Don, and he has a big grey with big boots on. I don't know if they are Swi ss or Old Macs. Slap me hard for not picking his brain more about those boots, because they are starting to look like a great idea. Does anyone know Don, and what boots he uses, and whether they'd be good on a over-reacher, who also stumbles  occasionally.   Thanks for any discussion on these matters.    Beth Glover
