The wet is the killer down here. It's not near as bad where I am now as
it was in Sarasota since I drain a lot better. When we went to Utah and
CO in '96 for a couple months and get back - I call the farrier out.
The feet got so dog gone hard out west from the dry ( and we poured the
hoof cream on them ) he had to get out his new pair of nippers to nip
the walls. The ones he normally use we too dull.
That being said my farrier will reccomend front shoes on some horses in
the summer. The wet just plays havoc on some horse's feet and shoes
seem to help. The horse we have with the best feet has shoes all year.
He gets ridden all year and his feet are the best of any other horse in
the pasture. They show little effects of the wet. I am sure that is
because of the exercise.
