[RC] New in CO, first ride questions - Jonni Jewell

As far as tack etc. goes, you will see lots and lots of real cool tack and
ideas at the ride. Go with basically what you have for this ride, and I am
sure you will see things other rides use, that you will decide are a "must
have" item. I'd try to carry a water bottle or two for YOU on the ride, and
some real basic item. (Advil, a pocket knife or leatherman tool, and maybe
snack of some kind) If something happens on the trail, beg, borrow, or
tackle a passing rider to have them help you <wink> As you decide if this
sport is for you or not, you can add to what you carry with you.

There are some wonderful packs for the saddles out there, but not sure you
want to invest in one right away, until you give the sport a try. I love my
Snugpacks I got from Sportack, and have both the front and rear on my
english saddle. The key is to have packs that do NOT bounce. So, going
with a well fitting waist / hip pack the first time, might be the trick,
until you decide if you want to invest in packs for the saddle or not.

Some rides have vendors there, with all the cool gear on hand. Take the
credit card, and have fun <wink> As far as stirrups, many riders that use
english saddles, use variations of western style stirrups, that have a wider
base for the foot. Only a few ride in regular english irons. Again, look
around at the ride, and see what folks are using. You can sometimes wrap an
english stirrup with vet wrap, to keep the foot from slipping.

Go have fun, and then give us a report after the ride!!!!!!
