This must be a regional thing?  I can't imagine trying to just
show up at the full-to-the-gills PS rides.  In fact, some of our
ride managers have had to institute entry limits due to parking
situations, and some rides meet their max entry limits within days of
the entry forms being sent out.


It is to some extent.  Much as I hate pre-entries, it is obvious that they
are necessary in some circumstances, primarily in cases where entries DO
have to be limited for some reason.  In many areas, the ridership tends to
be somewhat predictable, and managers can usually be accurate within about
10% either way predicting their likely number of entries.  One can look at
the relative entries in rides from previous years, and then look at the
growth rate, and come pretty darn close.
