[RC] LD or CTR? - Tracey Smith

Julienne:

I have to agree with Jonni that given the choice and the fact your horse has had some time "off" from endurance I'd start back with the CTR since you are almost like starting over with her.

I have wanted to do endurance all my life and when I got Amira I was elated because she's so built for the sport.  But thankfully I listened to some seasoned distance rider friends (who do both endurance and ctr) and gave her a good solid foundation in CTR first.

We are just about to complete her first full year of CTR and she has gone from being an absolute "nutcase" at the start and a total idiot for the vetor at P&R's, to being level headed (but still very forward) and under control at the start.

Because of this I think we are now ready to try LD's and have stepped up her conditioning towards that end.  Jonni and some others gave me great advice on LD's and I will be "starting at the back" my first few rides so we hopefully don't blow the nice level head we have worked so hard to get.

Just my opinion, but I'd go for the CTR and you can do LD's later once your horse is back into the swing of distance competition.
