Last year the ride was sponsored by Ariat - it says so on my volunteer Tshirt, and probably also was on some banners. So what. The issue this year is not sponsorship. The issue this year is that it was over the top, in your face, crowned by the awarding of a buckle. A BUCKLE! That small bit of metal we all dream about, that represents a huge accomplishment, survival of something that literally could be life threatening to both you and your horse. When I see someone wearing a Tevis buckle, that means a HUGE deal. So what if this buckle is slightly different, it is still a Tevis buckle.
And this year they sold it to the highest bidder.....
