RE: [RC] [RC] Reply to Kim Fuess Tevis Letter - sindy mccosker

Christoph,

I myself was happy to receive a tee shirt and cap from the UAE. I wore my cap all day up at Robie never once thinking that is was such a bad thing to have them sponsor the ride. I have to admit....I never noticed the American flag as flying backwards until after someone on Ridecamp pointed it out. I guess I was just so happy to have a hat to wear in the hot sun that I didn't even look at it before I put it on. I thought how nice it was that they gave out such nice free gifts even to the volunteers.

With all of the companies sponsoring sports these days I guess it never even occured to me that it was inappropriate. We do live in a society that is advertisment driven. Even John Lyons wears his sponsors logo on his shirt. I have to wonder if there would be such an uproar about it "if" it was a huge Arabian breeder/competitor from the USA instead of the UAE that did the sponsoring? Wasn't it your horses that the UAE riders leased for the ride?

I was only a volunteer, but I had a wonderful time doing that. Maybe someday I will be there crewing for someone else that has a dream of completing the famous Tevis. I know it won't be me.....I am afraid of heights and after reading Nick's account of the wreck on the trail with the cliff.....no thank you! LOL I am in awe of anyone that can ride the Tevis!

A BIG thank you to the Tevis committee for putting on such a nice ride. See you all next year!

Who knows.....maybe Corona will be the sponsor next year! Coronas with limes for everyone!

With utter disbelief did we read this outrageous letter of Kim Fuess. Instead of expressing gratitude for the generous contribution of the U.A.E., it never ceases to amaze me how some know-it-all have to badmouth not only the sponsors but also the whole Tevis Committee. Not understanding the amount of committment and work and costs that go into the event, it's all too easy to belittle the efforts of others. Exactly, what did Kim Fuess contribute to give her any right to write in such a despicable and judgemental way about the Committee and the sponsors? The Tevis is not some small regional event, but the premier endurance event in our country. We, and the vast majority of riders appreciate everything that was done by the Board of Governors of the Western States Trail Foundation and the sponsors of the event, notably the Endurance Village of the U.A.E. THANK YOU!!!! The Endurance Village of the U.A.E. deserve to have their name and logo plastered all over the place. It was done in a very professional and tasteful way to promote the sport of Equestrian Endurance. It showed class, kindness and generosity. It's the Arab way.
