[RC] horse that spooks - sandy . l . holder

3 years ago, my 'halter class winner at age 3', rescue at age 9 (who turned out to be 12) was PSYCHOTIC!!  The 'spook' was divided into 2 classes: the 3 foot spook and the 7 foot spook. . . just depended on whether he was in front or not.  The only good advise that I can give you is: go out on trail a lot by yourselves; have a lot of patience (I let him look at things as long as he follows my direction - like take one step forward, and give him a 'it's a rock' or whatever it is, followed by 'you silly goose'); and a lot of wet saddle blankets - this just isn't cured over night.  But after 3 years, he's wonderful (except occasionally when he only 'starts' at something really scary)!  Oh, and yes, we did plastic training and all kinds of other things.  He was just one of those horses that was perfect in the arena but hadn't a CLUE when it came to being on trail (yes, he literally SHOOK when walking down the trail).

LOL,
~sandy & Tally
