Re: [RC] re:saddle question treeless saddles - Karen Sullivan

The actual company does not have an up-to-date website. There are
dealers who are promoting the saddle. Genie Steward Spears, I think
she is Horseworks....sells them and has a lot of experience. She might
be an endurance.net vendor. April Battles at AB sportsaddles and endurance
horses, on endurance.net has some info.......and Gerri Rini, who has
www.sportsaddle.com
also has just tons of info regarding models, seat size and stirrup position.

I have ridden sport saddles for about 10 years and find them quite different
from the Torsion.

I've never tried the Torsion, but basically the Bob
Marshall and Torsion both have the same hard pommel
area and hard cantle area with thick padding
everywhere else. I've been using my Sport Saddle for
7 years and really like it. The only time I gave my
horse a sore back with it was when I got injured
during the VC 100 and started riding heavy in the
saddle. I use a woolback with equalizer inserts.
I've heard that heavyweight riders, or people who ride
heavy in the saddle will tend to give their horses
sore backs with the Sport Saddle. You need to ride
with your weight spread out between your stirrups and
your seat because there is no tree to spread the
weight across the saddle. There is a new Australian
treeless saddle that is rather expensive, but has a
"flex form" tree made out of a stiff foam rubber that
looks very interesting. I can't remember what its
called, but I think the website is on Ridecamp with
all the other vendors.
